Entryway Makeover

Earlier this fall I decided to redo my entryway. I never get tired of looking through design magazines and books, and they always inspire me to try new looks.

So the entryway went from black furniture with red accents to pale blue and creams with gold.

 The little settee used to be in my bedroom, but I love it out here. Gold faux bamboo table adds a touch of glamour. And of course Stella thinks she needs to be in the photo!

 Black buffet has been painted with chalk paint and waxed for a tough finish on top. Chair fabric matches the settee. Mercury glass, some filled with paper whites for simple Christmas decor. 

Sparkly and serene.

Bookcases, cupboards and painted interiors

I have always loved the look of a shelf or cupboard with the interior painted. It is just beautiful. Here are some lovely examples, they are inspiring me to take a paintbrush to one of my bookcases! Maybe they will inspire you too!

 This color is just gorgeous. Look closely, the beach decor ties in so well with the color.

 This looks like raspberry sherbet. So pretty!

 The pale blue compliments the gray exterior perfectly.

 Martha Stewart always does it right.

Again the pinky red, it really works as an interior color.

 One of my favorites!

 The chicken wire is perfect on this cabinet, the exterior paint is beautiful. It's hard to tell if it is old or if it was aged, it is so well done. I would love to own this one!

 A great idea for a child's room. Children are so drawn to bright colors.

 Open cupboards in kitchen. A lovely shade of blue.

 The orange shade really warms up this bookcase.

 Elegant!

This says cottage to me, a lot of saturated color and it works.

Cheap and Chalky. Or how to make an old piece of furniture look great!

I am just starting to work with the popular chalk paint from Annie Sloan. It is amazing. You can paint right over any finish without cleaning or sanding first. The wax that you apply after painting is the real star of the show. It creates a hard finish and gives a silky smooth feel to the furniture. I will share my pieces when I am done but here are some great examples. Below is the link to her web site. It has tons of information.

Many of these pieces are from tag sales or Goodwill style stores. Notice the different details on these pieces. Some edges sanded to let the natural wood show through, my personal favorite. Some have gold leaf added to the edges and some have a contrasting paint. All of them are beautiful!
